Moving away from their original, more muted palette, Beatnik has embraced a fresh and vibrant direction that injects personality and energy into the space.

Evolving a Brand Through Colour and Signage

The new Beatnik identity centres around vibrant pops of colour that breathe life into the space. These carefully selected accents provide warmth and character, transforming the coffee shop into something more individual and expressive.

As a returning client, Beatnik trusted our team to interpret this new identity through a series of bespoke signage elements that would announce the transformation both inside and out. Every feature was designed to complement the laid-back atmosphere while strengthening the brand's street presence.

Illuminated Projecting Sign with a Difference

One of the standout features of the refurbishment is the new illuminated projecting sign.

Rather than opting for a standard lightbox or traditional projecting sign, we created something with added texture and depth. The sign features a transparent red casing, allowing the internal LED flex to remain visible. This exposed illumination creates a distinctive glow, giving the sign a vibrant and almost neon-like quality while adding another layer of visual interest.

From the street, the effect is striking. The illuminated sign immediately communicates that something has changed inside, increasing visibility and helping attract passing customers. By day and night, it provides a clear focal point and adds a contemporary touch to the Beatnik frontage.

Minimalist Design with Maximum Impact

Replacing the previous Beatnik plaque beside the entrance, we installed a vibrant green acrylic oval featuring raised black 3D lettering in the new typeface.

While simple in execution, this piece demonstrates how effective minimal signage can be when paired with bold colour choices and quality materials. The contrast between the bright green background and the crisp black lettering creates an immediate visual impact, naturally drawing customers towards the entrance.

The result is a sign that feels relaxed, contemporary and perfectly suited to the Beatnik personality.

The Beauty of Real Glass Neon

One element we were delighted to see retained from the original fit-out was the hanging real glass neon installation.

Suspended overhead, the organic white line form flows through the space, guiding visitors naturally towards the counter. More than just illumination, it acts as a sculptural feature that fills the volume above and creates movement within the interior.

There is something truly special about genuine glass neon. Its warmth, depth and unmistakable glow simply cannot be replicated. In an era dominated by LED alternatives, real neon still possesses a character and quality that makes it one of the most exciting materials to work with.

As one of the few workshops in the UK still producing traditional glass neon in-house, these are the types of features we love bringing to life.
