Paesano
Restaurant | George Street, Edinburgh
For their George Street location, the brief was clear: deliver a comprehensive signage package that matched the scale and confidence of the space while enhancing the customer journey from street to table. At Solas Signs, we were proud to design, fabricate, and install a full suite of signage elements that work together to create a vibrant yet balanced environment.
A Full-Spectrum Signage Approach
This project brought together multiple signage styles and materials, carefully layered to serve both functional and aesthetic purposes. Large illuminated metal 3D lettering, real glass neon, bespoke window graphics, and corten steel wayfinding all play a role in shaping the overall experience.
Rather than relying on a single statement piece, the signage was designed as a complete system. Each element supports the next, ensuring the brand is reinforced consistently throughout the space without overwhelming the interior design or dining experience.
Interior Impact with Balance and Warmth
Inside the restaurant, illuminated metal 3D lettering provides strong brand presence while maintaining a refined finish. The lighting adds warmth and depth, helping define key areas within the space and contributing to the welcoming atmosphere Paesano is known for.
A key feature of the interior signage is the use of real glass neon. The unmistakable red glow introduces energy and character, creating visual highlights that feel authentic and timeless. This is paired with corten steel wayfinding signage, which offers a tactile, industrial contrast to the neon’s vibrancy. Together, these elements guide customers naturally through the restaurant and towards the facilities, combining clarity with visual interest.
A Focal Point That Doesn’t Overpower
To the rear of the space, a large metal-framed “Paesano” sign stretches across the wall, acting as a focal point on arrival. Designed to command attention without dominating the room, this feature anchors the space visually while remaining subtle enough to sit comfortably within the dining environment.
Scale was a critical consideration here. The sign needed to feel substantial and confident, but not distracting. By carefully balancing proportions, materials, and lighting levels, the result is a feature that enhances the space rather than competing with it.
Exterior Signage with Strong Street Presence
Externally, the signage was designed to complement the building’s sandstone cladding, respecting the architectural context of George Street while still delivering a strong street presence. The exterior elements echo the interior branding, creating a clear visual connection between outside and in.
This cohesive approach ensures that customers experience a consistent brand message from the moment they approach the restaurant. The signage draws people in, sets expectations, and establishes Paesano’s identity before they even step through the door.
Guiding the Customer Journey Through Design
One of the strengths of this project lies in how the signage supports the customer journey. Wayfinding elements are clear and intuitive, while illuminated features and neon accents add personality and warmth. Every decision was made with flow, visibility, and atmosphere in mind.
By combining robust materials such as metal and corten steel with softer lighting and neon, the space achieves a balance between industrial edge and welcoming comfort — a reflection of Paesano’s brand ethos.
A Signage Package That Works as One
This project is a strong example of how a comprehensive signage package can elevate a hospitality space. When signage is considered as part of the wider design rather than an afterthought, it becomes integral to how a space looks, feels, and functions.
At Solas Signs, we specialise in delivering this kind of joined-up approach. From large-format illuminated lettering and real glass neon to wayfinding and window graphics, we offer a full design, build, and installation service tailored to each project.
